MINNESOTA
Joining the Pack
Paddling through the protected wilderness of the Boundary Waters Canoe
Area in northern Minnesota is adventure enough for many. But
those who really go wild take a trip with amiable Moose Track Adventures
guides Jim Blauch and Chris Parthun. Around the campfire after
paddling, Jim leads travelers in pitch-perfect imitations of the
wolves who call this land home.
As travelers mimic those ghostly cries,
the pack may join in or work its way closer for a look. But don't
fear. Wolves, unlike many humans, know how to observe what happens
in this pristine natural wonder without disturbing it.
WHAT IT IS: Seven-day
guided Wilderness Wolf Ecology Tour, plus fishing, paddling, camping in
the Quetico Provincial Park and Boundary Waters Canoe Area, scheduled
twice each year. $895 per person, four to six on each trip.
Moose Track Adventures also hosts several other tours, both guided and
unguided, as well as simple trips.
Includes transportation to and from
put-in point, gear & camp meals. Walleye, Northern Pike and
Smallmouth Bass from the lakes subsidize dinner.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
Paddlers may be on the lakes for hours and haul heavy loads over rough
terrain. Guides will plan based on paddlers' experience and
fitness. Travel in early sprig or fall to avoid heavy bug
season. Book early.
HAPPY HOUR: Story time
around the fire is usually accompanied by cocktails.
